Today: the briefing

The landing page. What changed in the market you watch over the window you pick, as one list grouped by the day it was observed, newest first. What is on the list is the three things that move a sponsorship budget: who came off a sponsor list, who changed level, and which events opened for sponsors. Every row is the same dated, receipted signal the stream holds, and opens the record it names.

Where: Today in the left rail; it is also where the Argus mark takes you. The controls sit in the page header: read your own market or the whole tracked one, over 24 hours, 7, 14, 30 or 90 days.

The Today briefing: one sentence stating what changed over the window, then the observed changes grouped by the day they were read, each row saying what happened over the event, the date and the page it was read from
One sentence stating the window, then the changes themselves, grouped by the day each was observed. Every row opens the record it names, and Receipt beside it opens the evidence without leaving the page.

How to read it

The page opens with one sentence beside the title, and a second one directly above the list. Both are built by code from counted rows and rendered word for word; nothing on this page is written by a model. The line above the list describes exactly what is under it: how many changes are listed, out of how many were observed in the window, and how many companies and events those listed changes cover. Under it comes the list itself, grouped by the day each change was observed, newest day first. The list is not everything on file: it is the three things that happened to money, and the foot of the page links to the full stream for the rest.

  • Came off a sponsor list. A company that was named on a page Argus tracks and is missing from the latest check of it. You get both dates and the page. Argus never says why, because it cannot see why. This is the closest thing in the product to budget you might be able to win, so the column links straight into the buying window.
  • Moved sponsorship level. A company whose level changed between two dated checks of the same page. Up and down are read from the level names against the six ranked ones; a move between levels Argus does not rank carries no direction, and the column says so rather than inventing one.
  • Opened for sponsors. An event that put a future edition on sale, or changed a published price. It counts events rather than signals: one event that publishes a page and then reprices it is one event. Argus reads this off a sales page on the event's own site, so an event that sells privately never appears here. See Selling season.

Your market, or the whole one

The Following and Whole market switch is a lens over all three signal classes at once rather than a fourth category. Following reads inside the companies and events you follow plus any view you have saved; Whole market reads the entire tracked catalog. If you follow nothing yet the switch is not shown, the briefing reads from the whole catalog and says so, and the page still answers on day one. See Watchlists, alerts, digests.

The rows, and the receipt behind each one

Each row is one line: a direction mark, the sentence the engine composed, and the event, the date and the site it was read from. The direction mark is the same one the signal stream uses on its chips. Clicking the row opens the record it names; Receipt beside it opens the evidence without leaving the page, which is the same receipt the stream opens: the page, the capture date, the quoted line and the screenshot.

The line at the top right

The grey line beside the page title is the denominator the whole briefing rests on: how many tracked events, how many were re-checked in the last 7 days, and the freshest capture date. It is the same line the signal stream prints, and it links to the Coverage board. Read it the way you read any Argus number: the claims below are only as good as the coverage underneath.

The briefing and the email digest

The email digest and this page are two readers over the same signals. Opening this page never consumes or blanks a digest, and a digest send never empties this page. If you never open the emails, this page is the same synthesis in the browser.
